The Reserves endured a disappointing afternoon, travelling away to Gresely Reserves and falling foul of a heavy 5-1 defeat.

The Reserves travelled away to the Moat Ground, to face Gresely Reserves, looking to build on the growing momentum in the academy.

Gresely however, had other plans, and took the lead in the 15th minute, and doubled their lead in the 23rd. Making the score 2-0, and leaving the Reds reeling.

The Reds recovered and began to exploit their pace in the channels, creating some chances, but were unable to convert them into goals.

Gresely took advantage of the Reds’ incapability to score, and added their 3rd in the 39th minute, which saw the Reds go into half time 3-0 down.

The Reds came out for the second half with more intent, looking to get the ball into the channels and play with more positivity. Their improved performance was rewarded in the 56th minute, when a superbly delivered free kick from Brad Clayton was powerfully struck home by Callum Hall, to make it 3-1 and put the Reds back into the game!

However, Gresely struck back quickly, making it 4-1 in the 62nd minute. The home side then added their fifth and final goal to their lead, in the 75th minute, arguably against the run of play, as the Reds again grew into the game and largely looked the better team.

All in all, a disappointing day for the Reserves, which puts an end to a very impressive run in the academy. However, with plenty of games for all teams coming up, there is plenty of opportunity to bounce back and get back to winning ways!
