Goals galore at the Trico Stadium as Redditch United Reserves progress into the next round of the Challenge Trophy with a 6-3 victory over Knowle Reserves
The Reds started poorly, with Knowle going into the lead within 6 minutes. However, they responded immediately, after Callum Hall’s long throw was deflected into the back of the net!
However, Knowle continued to be the better side, and their superiority paid off as they regained the lead in 15 minutes. The Reds continued to show their resilience, as 2 minutes later, Daniel MacDonald Taylor scores from the spot to level the scores at 2-2. The end to end start to the game, which saw 4 goals scored within 18 minutes, settled down. The scores remained level until half time, and the Reds went into half time hoping to improve their performances for the second half.
The Reds came flying out the blocks, with Daniel MacDonald Taylor finishing from 20 yards out to bag a brace, and put The Reds into the lead for the first time during the game!
The Reserves continued to be dominant, and striker Konteh scored 5 minutes later to make it 4-2! They game continued to be an end to end affair, with Knowle striking back in the 64th minute to make it 4-3 and reduce their deficit to 1.
With Redditch pushing to nick one more goal to seal the tie, and Knowle pushing to equalise, Bradley Clayton stepped up in the 75th minute to fire home a powerful strike to make it 5-3 and calm the nerves around the Trico.
Shortly after in the 80th minute, Knowle scored yet another own goal, after Kemarl Campbell delivered a whipped cross, which deflected in off a defender. 6-3!
The final whistle brought an end to a goal fest which saw an excellent second half display fire The Reserves into the next round of the Challenge Trophy. A much needed win for the Reds as they will now hope to build on their emphatic win, and leave the 2 defeats in a row in the past.
