The Reds’ Reserves fell foul of a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Midland Football Reserves League Champions, Gresely Reserves, despite having a hatful of chances to score and being the better side for large portions of the game.

Redditch United Reserves welcomed Gresely Reserves to the TRICO Stadium, in what was their penultimate match of the season. With The Reds looking to finish the season on a high, they started largely on top, dominating possession and relentlessly harrying the league champions to win the ball back when they did lose it. They almost made the perfect start, however attempts from Randane Larmond, Ciccio Acheampong and Mo Konteh, who have all been involved in first team match day squads in recent weeks, did not find the net.

Despite the early onslaught, Gresely weathered the storm and settled into the game, and took advantage of the Reds’ lack of precision in front of goal, going 1-0 up in the 22nd minute and sending The Reds into half time trailing, despite being the much brighter side.

Gresely began the second Half by displaying their ruthlessness in front of goal and why they are league champions, going 2-0 and shortly after, 3-0 up within 65 minutes. Despite this however, the pattern of play continued, with The Reds largely being the better side and creating numerous chances, but yet again missing the cutting edge to score.

With The Reds continuously squandering huge chances, Gresely held on and secured the 3 points. A dissapointing evening for The Reds, who played some excellent football, but simply could not covert their chances.

The Reds’ Reserves host Fairfield Villa on Friday evening for a 19:45 KO, determined to round the season off with a win.
