The Reserves put on a superb display to come out 2-1 victors against Worcester City Reserves, with goals from Mo Konteh and Randane Larmond seeing the Reds to victory.
The Reds, with a few debutants scattered around the pitch, started off brightly, playing controlled possession football, as well as pressing intensely out of possession. Worcester City also began the game well, with both teams looking to play football the right way.
The deadlock was broken in 25th minute however, with the Reds counter attacking from a corner ruthlessly, for Mo Konteh to get onto the end of a through ball, to fire into the bottom corner from 20 yards out! Konteh continued his goal scoring form by adding his 2nd in as many days!
With the Reds maintaining their confidence and defensive solidity, notably aided by debutant Owen Hill between the sticks, they went into half time 1-0 up and in high spirits.
The Reds were able to maintain their levels of performance for the second half, playing out from the back confidently and threatening from set pieces, with the latter being a vast improvement on the majority of the season. The quality of delivery, provided by Fin Gaynor all afternoon finally paid off in the 70th minute, when Randane Larmond used his aerial dominance to fire a bullet header past the goalkeeper to double the lead! Larmond topping off his dominant performance with a superb goal, making it 2 in 2 games since signing for the Reserves.
Worcester City continued to plug away however, and were rewarded for their efforts in the 86th minute, making it 2-1, and providing a nervous end to a spectacular game. The Reds however, were able to hold on and secured an impressive victory.
A fantastic performance top to bottom from the Reds today, who seem to be pushing on under new Manager Karl Addis. Other positives include the impressive performances of new players, as well as today’s debutants!
