Redditch United Reserves produced one of the comebacks of the season in an epic encounter against local rivals Worcester City Reserves, after a last minute Brad Clayton strike earned the 3 points for the Reds.
After coming out 2-1 victors in the reverse fixture, the Reds were looking to replicate the result against 2nd place Worcester City, however, knew they would have to be at their very best to get a result today.
Things did not go as planned for the Reds, with Worcester City going 1-0 up in 18 minutes and largely controlling the game.
The visitors piled on the misery, adding their second of the game moments before half time to make it 2-0, leaving the Reds requiring a much improved second half to get anything from the game.
The Reds made four changes at half time, and were on the front foot from the first second, pressing more intensity and moving the ball around with intent. They were rewarded almost instantly, with Randane Larmond slotting the ball into the net in the 47th minute to put the Reds back into the game!
The Reds’ improved performance continued, creating many chances and putting the visitors on the back foot. The Reds finally equalised in the 70th minute, with substitute Daniel Gyasi firing a powerful strike into the roof of the net! The attacking midfielder adding a goal to his brilliant performance after being introduced at half time.
With the game seemingly dying out to a draw, Worcester City had one final chance, and looked nailed on to score, until skipper Jordan Ganderton stepped up to make a magnificent block, somehow denying the visitors of their winner.
In the final moments of the game, Brad Clayton was reintroduced to the game after his positive first half display. The energetic attacker continued to harry the opposition in the middle, and was finally rewarded after yet again dispossessing the opposition, making his way into the area to fire the ball into the net, completing a memorable comeback!!
A superb victory for the Reds and a very pleasing second half display, showing great desire and determination to fight back to pick up the three points!
