The Reserves fell to defeat, away at Fairfield Villa, display a stunning goal from Randane Larmond and a positive second half performance
The Reserves made the short away trip to Fairfield Villa, looking to put last week’s disappointing collapse behind them and bounce back.
The Reds started the game brightly, and almost took an early lead, when Ciccio Acheampong crashed a long range strike off the crossbar. With both teams vying to win the midfield battle, the first half was very competitive.
Moments before half time however, the deadlock was broken by Fairfield Villa, making it 1-0. A severe kick in the teeth for the Reds who felt they deserved more than to be going into half time 1-0 down.
The second half began terribly for the Reds, going down to 10 men moments after the restart, and Fairfield scoring from the resulting free kick, making it 2-0 and leaving the Reds reeling.
Despite being down to 10 men, the Reds enjoyed their most positive spell of the game shortly after, and grabbed a goal of their own back in the 70th minute, after First Team man Randane Larmond used his dominant physical ability to drive through the Fairfield defence and caress the ball expertly into the top corner. 2-1.
The Reds went on to cause the home side various problems and looked certain to level the score, but were stopped by the final whistle.
A frustrating day for the Reds, who will certainly take the positives from the second half performance. The Reserves host Cadbury Athletic next weekend, looking to bounce back from today’s defeat.
