The U18’s hosted Alvechurch U18’s in the Midweek U18’s Cup, looking to put an end to poor form in recent weeks.
The Reds started very brightly, with Owusu threatening with lightning pace and mazy dribbling. His superb start to the game was rewarded in the 9th minute, when he was brought down after a dazzling run into the box, winning a penalty. Owusu then converted the penalty confidently to put the Reds into the lead, 1-0.
The Reds continued to be on top, and managed to add another to the lead, with Mo Konteh scoring seconds after coming on in the 37th minute! 2-0.
The Reds continued to be on top for the remainder of the half, and went into half time with the 2-0 lead, and extremely pleased with their first half performance.
Early on in the second half however, the visitors grabbed one back in the 52nd minute. However, the Reds proved the goal to be against the run of play, and remained on top for the majority of the half. In the 76th minute, Owusu went on yet another unstoppable run, beating 5 players and delivering a superb ball to Liam Harding, who slotted home accurately from the edge of the box to make it 3-1!
Drama unfolded in the 90th minute however, with the visitors scoring directly from a free kick to make it 3-2 and provide the Reds with a nervy final moments.
the Reds were able to hang on however, with the match finishing 3-2. A superb performance from the U18’s, which they will hope to carry into next weeks fixture vs Tuffley Rovers U18’s.
