An early goal from Mo Konteh was not enough to see The U18’s progress to the Semi Finals of the U18 Midweek Cup, as they were beaten by 3 second half goals by Lye Town
The Reds hosted Lye Town on another exciting chapter of Friday Night Football, looking to start 2019 how they finished 2018, and build on the growing momentum, as well as the superb victory over Alvechurch in the previous round.
Mo Konteh peeled off his marker superbly in the 5th minute, and drilled past the goalkeeper to give the Reds an early lead, which they managed to carry into half time after a first half performance packed full of determination, skill and hard work.
The visitors were quicker out the blocks in the second half however, and their improved tempo and physicality was rewarded in the 51st minute, equalising and swinging the momentum in their favour. Lye Town took advantage of their control of the game, and added their second in the 58th minute, making it 2-1 within 7 minutes.
Lye Town continued to have superiority over the Reds, and killed the game in the 85th minute, making it 3-1.
A spirited performance from the young Reds against higher division opposition, with the 1st half particularly highlighting the leaps and bounds this group of players have come on in recent times.
